No Need to Enter Cabinet to Support Government: Prabowo

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - An opposition party leader, Prabowo Subianto, said here on Sunday there is no need for the party to put its cadre in the cabinet in order to assist the government.

The chairman of the board of patrons of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) said "Gerindra puts national interests above all other interests. We are willing to help for the sake of national interest and we can do it from outside the cabinet."

He said after meeting with party cadres at Hall D2 JI Expo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta that democracy requires executive, legislative and judicial branches and in view of that he said Gerindra would remain outside the government without necessarily closing possibilities to assist the government.

"If all are in the government who will criticize and supervise it. The executive and legislative branches must be balanced," he said.

Prabowo, who lost in the last presidential election against Joko Widodo, said that President Joko Widodo would see the benefit of placing someone in his cabinet and he believed the President knew it very well.

So "let President Jokowi finish his job until the end of his term," he said.

Regarding the statement of one of the party executives regarding the possibility of a party cadre to be recruited as a cabinet member Prabowo said he did not know adding perhaps that cadre expected to be the one.

"Perhaps he wants to be a minister," he added.(WDY)
