Navy Chief Inaugurates Three Warships In Batam

Batam, Riau Islands (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Ade Supandi inaugurated three fast patrol ships namely KRI Tatihu 853, KRI Layaran 854, and KRI Madidihang 855 here, Tuesday.

"The three ships are projected to strengthen the patrol ships unit of the Eastern Fleet," the Navy chief stated.

On the occasion, three Navy officers were installed as commanders of the patrol ships, namely Major (Marine) Dwi Eko Ardiano as commander of KRI Tatihu 853, Captain (Marine) Heru Trimanto as commander of KRI Layaran 854, and Captain (Marine) Rhony Lutviadhani as Commander of KRI Madidihang 855.

The three ships are armed with a 12.7-millimeter machine gun and will also be equipped with the 20-millimeter caliber cannon.

"The length of each ship is 45.5 meters, 7.9 millimeters wide, with a maximum speed of 24 knots. The fuel capacity is 70,000 liters with an endurance for six days," Supandi revealed.

The ships are also equipped with the ability to conduct surface anti-ship warfare, anti-air warfare, sea patrol operations, as well as hold search and rescue operations," he pointed out. (WDY)
