Indonesia, Japan To Cooperate On Garbage Management For Energy

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia and Japan through the  Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Japanese Ministry of Environment (MoEJ) will cooperate on the garbage management for renewable energy sources by making use of environmental technology for Waste Power Plant.

The Indonesian Minister for Environment and Forestry and the Japanese Minister of Environment Tadahiko ITO have discussed the environmental technology for Waste Power Plant (PLTSa), according to a press statement issued by KLHK here on Tuesday.

According to Siti Nurbaya, the PLTSa apart from the solution to overcome the waste bin, it is also expected to become an educational tool for the public in waste handling and the use of waste.

The public education in question is how to reduce, sort and process the waste, she noted.

The minister further said  in this PLTSa cooperation, there will be formulation of technical manuals, business model, investment model, regulatory frameworks and public education materials. This cooperation is also very important to be supported by all stakeholders such as local government, private, and community.

Additionally, the minister explained that the condition of  waste bin in Indonesia is very alarming, as more than 64 million tons of waste are generated annually.

Therefore, there should be a mechanism to reduce waste and process it into something useful, ie as an energy source. (WDY)
