Minister Urges Coach To Evaluate Timnas U-22

Bogor, W Java (Antara Bali) - Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi has urged the coach of the Indonesian soccer team (Timnas) under 22 years of age or U-22, Luis Milla, to evaluate the country's team after being defeated by Myanmar.

Myanmar's soccer team defeated the Indonesian squad 3-1 in a friendly match on Tuesday afternoon (March 21) in the Pakansari stadium in Cibinong, Bogor District.

"This (match) is a preparation for (Timnas before the SEA Games 2017). Timnas should play with full spirit. We hope the coach will immediately evaluate the first result of the international tryout match for the national squad," the minister stated.

The match between Indonesia and Myanmar will be the debut for Milla.

Imam Nahrawi appreciated Timnas despite its loss against Myanmar.

The Indonesian team members in this game were all young players, who lacked proper experience.

Meanwhile, Myanmar fielded its senior players with lot of international experience.

"We greatly appreciate their passion. We hope they continue maintaining the spirit to face the next matches," the minister added.

The country's squad which was defeated by Myanmar constitutes the results of three selections by the new coach.

The initial selection was carried out from Feb 21 to 23, 2017; the second one was organized from Feb 28 to March 2; and the third selection was carried out from March 7 to 9.

All of the selection events were conducted in Karawaci, Banten province.

The three selections were aimed to prepare the national team to win a gold medal in the SEA Games 2017. (WDY)
