Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has received the names of three candidates for the post of Constitutional Court (MK) judge.

The judges' selection committee, comprising five members from various professional fields, handed over the list of candidates to President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.

Earlier, the committee's chair, Harjono, said the selection process had met the target to hand over the names of three candidates to the president by the end of March.

However, Sukma Violetta, one of the committee's members, noted that they could not reveal the three candidates' names, as the authority for it lay with President Jokowi and the State Secretariat.

"Hence, it is in the hands of the State Secretariat to give further updates," he explained.

The three candidates were chosen from 12 applicants, who made it to the final interview in the selection process that began on Mar 7, while the application was opened from Feb 22 to Mar 3.

President Jokowi has to finalize a name from the list in the next seven days to replace previous judge Patrialis Akbar, who was disgracefully expelled from the MK judges' board due to a corruption case.

Akbar was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission for accepting a bribe in a judicial case on Jan 25 and was named a corruption suspect a day later.

The MK is run by a board of three judges whose names are proposed by the House of Representatives, president, and Supreme Court and are ultimately selected by the president. (WDY)
