Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Hasyim Asy'Ari Grand Mosque on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, on Saturday.
The head of state expressed hope that the Hasyim Asy'Ari Grand Mosque would become a friendly and moderate Islamic symbol in Jakarta, in particular, and in Indonesia, in general.
"Indonesia is a pluralistic country, and this mosque is expected to become the symbol of Islam, which is friendly and moderate, and acknowledges the diversity in Jakarta, in particular, and Indonesia, in general," President Jokowi remarked.
He noted that the grand mosque is named after Hasyim Asy'Ari, one of the national heroes who loved the Republic with all his heart and soul.
"Hasyim Asy'Ari has demonstrated that the love of the nation and the country will never fade. As a cleric and founder of the largest organization of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Indonesia, he had laid the religious foundation, which is friendly and moderate," the president emphasized. (WDY)
