At the launch of the preliminary data of the Economic Census 2016 here, Thursday, BPS's Head Suhariyanto said the non-agricultural enterprises are grouped into 15 business fields.

Of the 26.71 million business units recorded in the 2016 Economic Census 26.26 million are micro-sized companies and 0.45 million mid-large sized-companies.

Suhariyanto explained the economic activities of Indonesians are concentrated in general trade and retail sector, as well as automotive repair and maintenance, accommodation and food, as well as processing industry.

The 2016 Economic Census is the first step in fully measuring the strength of the Indonesian economy outside the agricultural sector.

The economic census is one of the censuses conducted by the BPS in addition to the population census and agricultural census. The activity was conducted in May-June 2016 by listing non-agricultural businesses and companies.

"The census is the most severe because it must enumerate all economic activities outside the agricultural sector," Suhariyanto said.
