Buleleng To Develop 10 Tourism Villages

Singaraja (Antara Bali) - The Buleleng District Culture and Tourism Office in the Indonesian island resort of Bali is ready to develop 10 tourism villages in a bid to improve the welfare of the village residents.

Buleleng Culture and Tourism Office Chief I Nyoman Sutrisna remarked here on Saturday that by developing 10 new tourism villages, more domestic and foreign tourists will visit the area.

According to Sutrisna, Buleleng has growth potential in the village tourism sector, as the district has sea and hills, better known as "nyegara gunung."

By developing the tourism villages, Sutrisna expressed hope that it would at least improve the economy of the villages and help to alleviate poverty.

Buleleng covers the largest area in Bali and features mountains, lakes, plains, and coastlines.

Although Buleleng is the largest in Bali, the western and northern parts of the district are vast and dry areas that are unsuitable for wet agriculture but rather for fruit plantations, such as oranges, coffee, and cloves.

"Located in the north of Bali, Buleleng has different tourism characteristics as compared to the existing tourist attractions in South Bali," he noted.

In Buleleng, tourists will find some interesting places to visit, such as the secluded tourist resort of Lovina Beach.

The most well-known places in North Bali are Singaraja, Lovina, Banjar Gitgit, Sembiran, Sangsit, Air Sanih, Sangsit, Pemuteran, Menjangan, and Seririt.

Buleleng, the northern part of Bali, is sheltered by the mountains that divide Bali from east to west. Hence, for a long time, the northern region has been isolated from the rest of Bali.

Moreover, the government of Bali Province is targeting to develop a hundred villages into tourism villages before 2018, whereas during the period between 2013 and 2015, some 42 tourism villages have been facilitated.

The tourism villages not only receive financial support but also training on the Sapta Pesona Programme as well as suitable potential training in which each village could benefit by developing it. (WDY)
