Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport reported growing number of passengers reaching a record 19.98 million visitors for arrival and departure in 2016 following the increasing number of tourists visited the resort island.
"There is a 17 percent increase over the previous year,"Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager Yanus Suprayogi said here on Monday.
Yanus added the traffic of the aircraft also increased by 10 percent to 139,000. Meanwhile, during the Christmas and New Year holiday season, the airport served 1.3 million passengers resulting in a 11.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2015, according to Yanus.
He said of that number the proportion comprised to 702,000 for domestic and 622,000 for international passengers.
Yanus furthermore explained during those peak seasons the airport received 613 extra flights proposed by six airline carriers namely Garuda Indonesia, AirAsia, Citilink, Sriwijaya, Nam Air and Lion Air.
Destinations that were added this year by those airlines include Jakarta, Surabaya and Kuala Lumpur. "We also have 8,352 flights in a whole year and it increases to 5.5 percent," he said, adding that the airport has a capacity to accommodate up to 25 million passengers per year with the average flight of 380 times a day.(DWA)
